We ask that you join us today as we remember one of our own. Deputy Lonnie Coburn was dispatched to a convenience store at Highway 301 & State Road 50 regarding suspicious persons. Upon making contact with the two males, they overpowered Deputy Coburn and shot him with his own weapon. More than 200 law enforcement officers from surrounding agencies and jurisdictions immediately responded to assist in searching for the suspects. The two suspects were subsequently apprehended and convicted. Deputy Coburn was killed in the line of duty on 02-21-1978. Today we would like to honor Lonnie’s memory and thank his family for their sacrifice.

Today, we ask that you join us in remembering one of our own. Captain Scott Bierwiler, a husband, father, son, brother, law enforcement officer, and a loyal friend to many, was killed in the line of duty in the early morning hours of February 19, 2009. As each of us reflect on the fond memories we have of Scott, we also think of his family today and of their sacrifice. Please feel free to leave a message for the HCSO or for Scott's family.
